When we take a look at the belief systems that are the foundations of our relationships, it’s not unusual to find consistencies in the emotional and social landscapes that take shape. Those landscapes are the product of gathering together experiences and memories over a lifetime that in turn have anchored us to our belief systems.
Those beliefs inform us about our external world as well as the world within. They are the driving force behind how we project ourselves into the world and on how we perceive ourselves in it. The combination of the two generates the landscape we find ourselves traveling through in life.
Each landscape has characteristics that provide insight into the internal processes that helped to create it. Our goal, and goals are essential, is to discover how our experiences and beliefs have shaped us, defined our character and as a result, the world around us. This is where the adventure begins.
As an adventurist, myself, there must always be horizons to pursue, to investigate, and to conquer. Your horizons reflect the future and all of its potentials. What lies beyond often serves us best when there’s some mystery to it, something to be discovered.
Unfortunately, though, for many the future is more often a certainty. If you are reading this page, then the mystery, as a potential, may have an elusive quality to it. If every day appears to be a prediction of the day before perhaps your horizons have become static, a product of a sense of self that is based in a belief that tomorrow holds no promise.
Please note that what keeps us from expanding our understanding of ourselves and the world around us is often a part of the same internal process that holds us back in every aspect of life. Doubt and uncertainty are destroyers.
They do not support a thirst for knowledge and self-reliance. Being disinterested in learning is often a sign of ambivalence which, as an internal state, can prevent us from achieving just about any dream we’ve ever had.
